Location and approval
The program is offered to U.S. residents and excludes U.S. territories. Each leased device requires its own application. Apple states that the application uses a soft credit inquiry that does not affect the applicant’s credit score, but eligibility and final approval still apply.
That statement covers the application inquiry. It should not be expanded into a promise about late payment, default, collections or future reporting, which depend on the agreement and applicable law.
iPhone carrier rules
An unlocked phone does not remove the checkout carrier requirement. Confirm that your current account and rate plan are compatible before signing.
- A leased iPhone must be selected with AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon.
- Prepaid plans are not supported in the current Apple Upgrade checkout.
- The leased iPhone remains unlocked, according to Apple.
- Carrier service charges are separate from the device lease.
Products and stores that do not qualify
Not every Apple product, configuration or store channel participates. Education, government, employee, military/veterans and certain business storefronts are excluded. Refurbished products are not eligible. The current device list should be checked at Apple because availability can change.
